Primero sacaron el primer lugar entre cerca de 400 canciones en el estilo de Alternative Rock para luego competir contra los 38 primeros lugares de cada categoría. Es decir, ¡Compitieron contra cerca de 16.000 canciones y obtuvieron el primer lugar!

Es un triunfo más para esta banda que siempre da algo de que hablar…

SOFIA just won the Grand Prize for October 2010 in the Ourstage.com contest, taking with them the amount of U.S. $ 5,000 in addition to other benefits. It may seem like a joke, being that they had already won other awards such as Slicethepie.com in 2008 and first place in the category of Modern Rock on the same site we’re talking about, ourstage.com.

They achieved the first place among near 400 songs in the style of Alternative Rock and then competed against the top 38 from each category. This means, they competed against 16,000 songs and took the first place!

It is another triumph for this band that always gives something to talk about …

The guys were invited to the famous TV show “Alfombra Roja” from Canal13, where they were told they had to do sync playback. A bit annoyed because they were not allowed to play for real, they decided to stay still for a second in the first chorus of their single “On My Own”.

Despite this fearless action, the channel did not remove them from the air and even more, the ratings went up 2 points.

SOFIA se presentó el pasado Sábado 17 de Julio en un evento realizado en el Centro de Ski “La Parva“, Chile.

El evento consistió en un desfile de modas producido por “Hecho en Chile“ en el cual se presentaron prendas de varios diseñadores Chilenos y Argentinos. También se sumó la participación de grandes marcas como Coca-Cola, Canon, Lippi, G.A.M.A, entre otros.

La gente que terminaba de esquiar podía acercarse primero a un increíble cóctel en el cual se degustaron carnes de vacuno y cordero, fondue de queso, vinos y variados tipos de delicatessen, para luego disfrutar del desfile de modas y finalizar maravillandose con el show que SOFIA presentó en vivo.

Fue una grata experiencia (a pesar del frio (-20°C)), de la cual todos quedaron impresionados con la excelente performance de SOFIA en medio de las canchas de ski. Todo un éxito y esperamos que se repita para otro año.

SOFIA presented an amazing show last Saturday, June 17th at “La Parva“ Ski Center, Chile.

The event consisted on a fashion show produced by “Hecho en Chile“ in which various designers from Chile and Argentina presented their latest garments. Big brands such as Coca-Cola, Canon, Lippi, G.A.M.A, among others also joined the show.

People who finished skiing could come to an incredible cocktail which included beef and lamb meat, cheese fondue, wine and various types of delicatessen, then enjoy the fashion show and, last but not least, end with the incredible show that SOFIA performed live.

It was a great experience (despite the cold (-4 °F)), from which everyone who assisted got impressed with the excellent performance of SOFIA in the middle of the ski slopes. A success we hope to repeat another year.

Hace aproximadamente un mes atrás recibimos un llamado telefónico desde el noticiero de Javier Solórzano de la Radio Trece de Ciudad de México. El hecho es que de alguna manera, en dicho noticiero escucharon la música de SOFIA, se enteraron de la iniciativa de donar los derechos de On My Own y decidieron realizar una entrevista telefónica con la banda.

El hecho motivó de sobremanera a un personaje incógnito que decidió regalar 4 pasajes aéreos a diferentes ciudades estratégicas en el mundo para que SOFIA promocionara su disco.
De este modo es que Alan pudo visitar México las semanas recién pasadas y viene llegando con noticias increíbles.

Alan: Bueno, antes que nada tengo que decir que la comida Mexicana es lo mejor de la vida y que ya extraño las tortillas, tacos, tamales, posole, etc… y que el Atole de Cajeta deberían importarlo a nuestro país porque es una delicia jaja!. Por otro lado, antes de hablar de SOFIA les doy las gracias a mis nuevos amigos mexicanos, son la gente más acogedora que he conocido y ya no puedo esperar para verlos nuevamente.
El hecho es que yo me fui de Chile sin plan y sin nada de nada salvo el teléfono de Jorge, un amigo mexicano que conocí en Australia que no veía hace 5 años, y el contacto de la Radio Trece que nos había entrevistado. Pero como algunos sabrán soy la persona más aventurera que hay y amo viajar a la deriva así que partí.
Resumiendo, Jorge me presentó a mucha gente que a su vez me presentó a gente que llevó a que, primero, me entrevistaran en el programa de David Rincon para Radio Exa Querétaro. La entrevista duró aproximadamente media hora y fue extra entretenida porque David es muy energético como locutor y además se motivó con la banda y puso “On My Own” e “Invisible”. Apenas terminó la entrevista tocaron la puerta de la cabina, entró alguien y me dijo:
“¿Tu eres Alan de SOFIA?..”
-Yo le dije extrañado: El mismísimo, por que?…
-Me dijo: “Hola, soy Aldo Gonzalez de Exa Tv y creo que su música está “¡bien chida!””.
-Le dije: “¿Que?”
-Me dijo: “¡Pues bien chida güey! ¡Que esta bien buena!”
-Yo: “¡Gracias!”
-El: “De hecho quisiera invitarte a mi programa en Exa para que toquen en vivo…”

Y así se dieron las cosas. Del mismo modo salimos en radio RMX que es la radio del rock alternativo de Guadalajara y muchas ciudades aledañas incluyendo algunas ciudades de USA. En esa radio Eduardo Vargas (en la foto conmigo) presentó el disco, puso On My Own y les gustó tanto que nos pusieron en la pre selección de bandas extranjeras para el festival 212 que se realiza en Guadalajara en septiembre. ¡El 212 es el segundo festival de música mas importante de México después del “Vive Latino”!

Para SOFIA la semilla en México fue sembrada y ahora queda regarla y cuidarla. Dentro de los planes de la banda está una visita a ese hermoso país dentro de los próximos meses. Importantes locales como el Foro Alicia o el Bar Plastiko ya han confirmado su interés en traer a SOFIA. Ya tendremos noticias concretas así que sigan atentos a sofiarock.cl porque aquí anunciaremos todo lo que vaya sucediendo.

About a month ago we received a phone call from the news station on Radio Trece By Javier Solórzano of Mexico City. The fact is that somehow they heard about SOFIA’s music, and they learned about the band’s initiative to donate the rights of “On My Own” to the Chilean red cross and decided to make a telephone interview with the band.
After this happened, an incognito character decided to give us four tickets to various strategic cities in the world for promoting our album “Dayenu”.
Thus, it is that Alan was able to visit Mexico last week and is just coming up with incredible news.

Alan: Well, first of all I have to say that Mexican food is best ever and I already miss the tortillas, tacos, tamales, posole, etc … and that they should import “Atole de Cajeta” to our country because it is a delight haha!. Moreover, before talking about SOFIA, I must thank my new Mexican friends who are the most welcoming people I have ever met and I can not wait to see them again.

The fact is that I left Chile with no plan and absolutely nothing except Jorge’s phone number, a Mexican friend I met in Australia who I had not seen in five years, and the contact of “Radio Trece” who had interviewed us. But, as some will know, I am the most adventurous person and I love to travel without plans, so I left.

In short, Jorge introduced me to many people who in turn introduced me to other people that led to an interview by David Rincon from “Radio Exa Querétaro”. The interview lasted approximately half an hour and it was extra fun because David is very energetic as an announcer and also liked the band and put “On My Own” and “Invisible”. Just finishing the interview, someone touched the door of the booth, came in and told me
- Are you Alan from SOFIA? ..”
- I said intrigued: The very same, why? …
- He said, “Hi, I’m Aldo Gonzalez from Exa TV and I think your music is “real chida!”. ”
- I said: “What? ”
- He said, “Well, chida wey! That is very good!”
- Me: “Oh, Thanks! ”
- He: “Actually I would like to invite you to my Exa program to play live … ”

And this is how things started coming. Like this, we appeared on “RMX radio” which is the alternative rock radio in Guadalajara and many surrounding cities including some U.S. cities. In this radio Eduardo Vargas (pictured with me) had the album and played On My Own and they liked it so much that they put us in the pre-selection of foreign bands for the 212 Festival to be held in Guadalajara in September. The 212 is the second most important music festival in Mexico after “Vive Latino”!

For SOFIA, the seed was planted in Mexico and now needs watering and care. Within the band plans is a visit to this beautiful country in the coming months. Important places like the Foro Alicia or the Bar Plastiko have already confirmed their interest in bringing SOFIA. We will have concrete news so stay tuned to sofiatheband.com because here we’ll tell everything that is happening with the band.

SOFIA on SwitchTV

Banda SOFIA cede el dinero generado por su single “On My Own” para los damnificados por el terremoto.

La banda nacional de rock alternativo SOFIA ideó y concretó legalmente un método con el cual cede los derechos autorales generados por su single “On My Own” a la Cruz Roja Chilena por un periodo de 1 año a partir del 27 de febrero de 2010 con el fin de ayudar a los damnificados y a reconstruir el país.

La innovadora iniciativa realizada por primera vez en nuestro país implica que cada vez que dicho tema sea reproducido, ya sea en radio, TV o cualquier otro medio de difusión legal ya sea en Chile o en cualquier lugar del mundo, la cuota de dinero que corresponde a la banda por derechos autorales será depositada automáticamente y en un 100% a la Cruz Roja Chilena.

Esta inédita acción entrega a toda persona la posibilidad de donar dinero por medio del entretenimiento gratuito, es decir, cada vez que una persona llama a las radios o programas de TV para pedir esta canción, indirectamente está haciendo una donación. Mientras más suene, más dinero se recauda.

La banda en conjunto con abogados de la Sociedad Chilena de Derecho de Autor (SCD) al ver que según las normas de autoria no era posible realizar la cesión de derechos a una fundación de beneficencia, lograron generar un nuevo conducto que permitió a SOFIA ser los pioneros en dicha acción.

Por medio de un contrato legal con la SCD, la banda se convirtió en la primera de la historia en realizar una tarea benéfica de este tipo. El contrato irreversible no solo asegura el cumplimiento de la iniciativa, sino que además deja estandarizado el procedimiento para todos los artistas que se quieran sumar a la iniciativa.

Por su parte, la banda hace un llamado a los artistas y jóvenes chilenos a ayudar de todas las maneras posibles. “Cada uno tiene un granito de arena que aportar, el que no puede ponerse con comida, podrá poner medicamentos, y el que no puede poner medicamentos pondrá su tiempo y sus habilidades pero toda ayuda es necesaria y urgente. Hay más de 500 mil personas sin techo en nuestro país, hoy más que nunca tenemos que ponernos en el lugar del otro, porque de todas formas finalmente somos todos uno”

Se ha enviado la canción a las radios mas conocidas del país pero además, en la pagina web y myspace de SOFIA existe la opción de descarga de “On My Own” en optima calidad de modo que cualquier radio del mundo, por mas pequeña que sea, pueda descargarla y radiodifundirla.

Band SOFIA gives the money generated by their single “On My Own” for the victims of the earthquake.

The chilean alternative rock band SOFIA legally developed and finalized a method which gives the copyright generated by the single “On My Own” to the Chilean Red Cross for a period of 1 year starting from February, 27^th 2010 with the purpose of assisting victims and rebuilding the country.

The innovative initiative first made in the country means that whenever this song is reproduced, whether on radio, TV or any other legal means of distributing either in Chile or anywhere in the world, the share of money that corresponds to the band by copyrights will be automatically deposited and in a 100% to the Chilean Red Cross.

This unprecedented action gives any person the opportunity to donate money through free entertainment, that is, each time a person calls the radio or a TV show to request this song, he is indirectly making a donation. The more it sounds, the more money is collected.

The band, together with lawyers from the Chilean Copyright Society (SCD), after seeing that under the rules of authorship was not possible to make the transfer of rights to a charitable foundation, managed to generate a new pathway that allowed SOFIA to be the pioneers in this action.

Through a legal agreement with the SCD, the band became the first in the history of Chile to perform a beneficial task of this kind. The irreversible contract not only ensures the accomplishment of the initiative, but also standardizes the procedure for all artists who want to join the cause.

Meanwhile, the band makes a call to Chilean artists and young people to assist in any way possible. “Everyone has a bit to contribute; who cannot give food, can give medicines and who cannot give medicines can put their time and skills, but help is urgently needed. There are over 500.000 people homeless in our country, so now, more than ever, we must put ourselves in someone else’s shoes, because, in the end, we are all one”.

The song has been sent to the best known radio stations in the country, but also, on SOFIA’s website and Myspace there is the option of downloading “On My Own” in optimum quality so that any radio in the world, even the smaller ones can download and broadcast this song.

Here’s what happened to each of us.

Andres was in his apartment on the 13^th floor of a 15-story building when suddenly the electricity went off. His younger brother went to check it out near their rooms when suddenly they started shaking slowly, like in a regular tremor. But then, the thing got heavier and stronger and Andres, his brother, two of his brother’s friends and an aunt had to hold on to the doorframes so they wouldn’t fall. Andres doesn’t get scared by these sorts of things, but he really thought this was his end. He started praying out loud and the only thing that was on his mind was if dying would hurt!

Luckily, he lives in a safe building and nothing happened. He only had to clean up a mess in his bedroom and living room, and has to get his TV fixed, but other than that he’s fine and his family and friends are too.

Alan was in the birthday party of his good friend and room mate “The Penguin” when the floor started shaking. At the beginning his friend Maya said to him, Alan, stop moving the floor man! …He said, I’m not moving anything! After 10 seconds the house was falling apart! Everyone running in hysteria to the outside screaming: Run for your lives!!!! The walls literally cracked from one side of the room to the other. Once outside the scenario was ever crazier! People in their underwear running and the sound of millions of things cracking around sounded like a furious lion and was the scariest thing ever! Alan was half extremely excited enjoying the end of the world, half shaking scared, mainly because he loves adrenalin in any form and especially in the form of natural force. But it didn’t end there! They where not safe on the street yet. Pieces of buildings where falling everywhere, cars crashing, lights shutting off and electric cables over their heads exploding in flames and sparkling.
He thought: This is it!!
After a while the ground stopped moving and thanks to G’d, apart from a broken apartment and broken stuff, he and the people in the party were all safe and praying the best for the less lucky ones.

Rodrigo was with his girlfriend and some friends in the 13th floor of a building on the beach, about a hundred kilometers from his fellow band members Andres and Alan.
It started very suddenly and in a few seconds they were all against the doorframes. When the stuff inside the apartment started to fall and break and the lights were out, Rodrigo realized that this was maybe the end (but deep inside he knew that everything was gonna be ok, and that there were many things left to do in this world, like being in a rock band and learning better and more difficult origami models), everything was shaking and he thought maybe the whole building would fall apart, so when the worse part was over, they ran to the escape stairs and in a few seconds they were all downstairs with everyone else. Luckily, nothing terrible happened and he is really grateful about this, but he and everyone else are still concerned about all the missing people, the families that lost loved ones and those who lost their homes.

Chile is a country of seismic activity; therefore our buildings are built quake-proof. But, like in every country, there are poorer buildings, or others that cheat construction testing and are made by cost reduction techniques, or others that simply did not resist the magnitude of the earthquake. There may be tons of reasons why, but the thing is that we have lost many lives, and people is suffering so we ask you all to pray and, if you can, to donate here.

Our thoughts are with the people in the Maule and Bio-Bio Regions, where the epicenter took place and with everyone else who has suffered and lost someone or something precious to them. Our country is strong and capable of surpassing this and many other brutalities the earth can throw at us, so we stand hopeful and positive for a near recovery.

Thank G’d we are alive.

Si te estabas preguntando cual es la historia con los chicos de SOFIA y del
increíblemente fuerte terremoto que sufrieron, estamos felices de contarles que estamos todos sanos y salvos. Aquí les contamos lo que pasó con cada uno de nosotros.

Andrés estaba en su apartamento en el piso 13 de un edificio de 15 pisos, cuando
de repente la electricidad se fue. Su hermano menor fue a ver que pasó en los conectores, cerca de sus habitaciones, cuando de repente comenzó a temblar lentamente, como en un
temblor regular. Pero entonces, la cosa se puso más pesada y más fuerte y Andrés,
su hermano, dos amigos de su hermano y una tía tuvieron que mantenerse afirmados bajo
los marcos de las puertas para que no cayeran. A Andrés no le dan miedo este tipo de cosas, pero realmente pensaba que este era su fin. ¡Empezó a rezar en voz alta y lo único que tenía en mente era si morir
le iba a doler!
Por suerte, él vive en un edificio seguro y no pasó nada. Sólo tuvo que
limpiar un desorden en su dormitorio y sala de estar, y tiene que arreglar su TV, pero aparte de eso, él está bien al igual que su familia y amigos.

Alan estaba en una fiesta de cumpleaños de su buen amigo y compañero de habitación “El
Pingüino” cuando el suelo comenzó a temblar. Al comienzo, su amiga Maya
le dijo: “¡Alan, deja de mover el piso, hombre!”. Él dijo: “¡Yo no estoy moviendo nada!” -¡Después de 10 segundos, la casa se caía a pedazos! Todos corrían hacia fuera en histeria y gritando: “¡Corran por sus vidas!!” Las paredes se quebraron literalmente de un lado de la habitación a la otra. Una vez fuera del edificio, la cosa fue cada vez más loca. ¡La gente en su ropa interior corría y el sonido de millones de cosas alrededor rompiéndose sonaba como un león furioso y fue la cosa más espantosa! Alan estaba medio emocionado disfrutando el fin del mundo y medio temblando de miedo, sobre todo porque le gusta la
adrenalina en cualquier forma y, más aún si es en forma de la fuerza natural. ¡Pero no terminaba allí! ¡Todavia no estaba seguros en la calle! Piezas de edificios caian por todas partes, los coches se estrellaban, las luces se apagaban y los cables eléctricos sobre sus cabezas estallaban con llamas y chispas.
Pensó: ”¡Esto es el fin!”
Después de un tiempo el suelo dejó de moverse y gracias a D’s, aparte de tener un apartamento medio roto y cosas rotas, él y la gente de la fiesta estaban todos a salvo, rezando por el bien para los menos afortunados.

Rodrigo estaba con su novia y algunos amigos en el piso 13 de un
edificio en la playa, a unos cien kilómetros de sus compañeros de banda Andrés y Alan.
Se inició muy pronto y en pocos segundos, todos estaban en contra de los marcos de las puertas. Cuando las cosas dentro del apartamento comenzaron a caerse y romperse
y las luces se apagaban, Rodrigo se dio cuenta de que era tal vez el final (pero en el fondo sabía que todo iba a estar bien, y que quedaban muchas cosas por hacer en este mundo, como estar en una banda de rock y aprender más y mejores modelos de difíciles de origami), todo estaba
agitado y pensó que tal vez el edificio entero se vendría abajo, así que cuando lo peor había pasado, corrieron a las escaleras de escape y en unos pocos segundos todos estaban abajo con los demás. Por suerte, nada terrible sucedió y está muy agradecido por esto, pero él y todos los demás siguen preocupados por todas las personas desaparecidas, las familias que perdieron seres queridos y aquellos que perdieron sus hogares.

Chile es un país de actividad sísmica, por lo que nuestros edificios están construidos a prueba de terremotos. Pero, como en todos los países, hay edificios más pobres, u
otros, que engañan las pruebas de construcción y usan tecnicas para reducir costos, u otros que simplemente no resisten la magnitud del terremoto. Puede haber miles de razones por qué, pero la cosa es que se han perdido muchas vidas, y la gente está sufriendo, por ello pedimos a todos a orar
y, si es posible, donar aquí.

Nuestros pensamientos están con las personas en las regiones del Maule y Bio Bio, donde
el epicentro tuvo lugar y con todos aquellos que han sufrido y perdido a alguien o algo preciado para ellos. Nuestro país es fuerte y capaz de superar esta y muchas otras brutalidades que la tierra puede lanzarnos, por lo que estamos optimistas y positivas de una cercana recuperación.

Gracias a D’s estamos vivos.

As every ship has its sea, and every car, its road, we have had our own leading force. The rational part of our brain. The one person who is always right, no matter what, and whose words always come as no surprise, leading us right back into the real world, where we always know we should come back. He has been the grown up in this playful relationship, and the soul of this great project.

But now he says goodbye.

As the rational person that he is, Gabriel has managed to turn down his beloved dream and continue with his successful life; a decision we understand and support, but that brings us down in a way we don’t yet truly understand.

You see, “Camion” was part of a project that we had since we were kids. He nurtured and fought for it when no one thought we could make something out of it. And just when we start becoming what we wished for, he’s forced to turn it aside due to personal issues. And though we know it has to be this way, it hurts and becomes illogical to think that he will be gone.

“Camion”: We will always miss you, but foremost, we thank you. We thank because it wouldn’t have been for you that we are where we are. We thank you because you brought us back to earth everytime we needed. We thank you because you were always there for each of us. And we thank you for always being who you are; a marvelous human being.
We love you!

Chame, Alan y Vile.

Como cada barco tiene su mar, y cada automóvil, su camino, nosotros hemos tenido nuestra propia fuerza guiadora. La parte racional de nuestro cerebro. La única persona que siempre tiene la razón, sin importar qué, y cuyas palabras siempre llegan sin sorpresa, conduciéndonos de vuelta, otra vez, al mundo real, donde siempre sabemos que debemos volver. Él ha sido el adulto en esta relación juguetona, y el alma de este gran proyecto.

Pero ahora dice adiós.

Como la persona racional que es, Gabriel ha tenido que oponerse a su sueño más querido para continuar con su exitosa vida; una decisión que comprendemos y apoyamos, pero que nos entristece en una forma que todavía no entendemos verdaderamente.

Ya ven, “Camión” fue parte de un proyecto que teníamos desde que éramos niños.
El lo nutrió y luchó por el, cuando nadie más pensaba que podríamos obtener algo a cambio. Y justo cuando empezamos a convertirnos en lo que deseábamos, él es obligado a dejarlo a un lado debido a cuestiones personales. Y aunque sabemos que tiene que ser así, nos duele y se convierte ilógico pensar que se habrá ido.

“Camión”: Siempre te echaremos de menos, pero por sobretodo, te damos las gracias. Te damos las gracias porque no habría sido sin ti que estamos donde estamos. Te damos las gracias porque tú nos trajiste de vuelta a la tierra cada vez que lo necesitábamos. Te damos las gracias porque siempre estuviste ahí para cada uno de nosotros. Y te damos las gracias por siempre ser quien eres, un ser humano maravilloso.
