If you were wondering what’s the story with the guys of SOFIA and the incredibly strong earthquake they just had to deal with, we’re glad to tell you that we’re safe and sound. Here’s what happened to each of us.

Andres was in his apartment on the 13^th floor of a 15-story building when suddenly the electricity went off. His younger brother went to check it out near their rooms when suddenly they started shaking slowly, like in a regular tremor. But then, the thing got heavier and stronger and Andres, his brother, two of his brother’s friends and an aunt had to hold on to the doorframes so they wouldn’t fall. Andres doesn’t get scared by these sorts of things, but he really thought this was his end. He started praying out loud and the only thing that was on his mind was if dying would hurt!

Luckily, he lives in a safe building and nothing happened. He only had to clean up a mess in his bedroom and living room, and has to get his TV fixed, but other than that he’s fine and his family and friends are too.

Alan was in the birthday party of his good friend and room mate “The Penguin” when the floor started shaking. At the beginning his friend Maya said to him, Alan, stop moving the floor man! …He said, I’m not moving anything! After 10 seconds the house was falling apart! Everyone running in hysteria to the outside screaming: Run for your lives!!!! The walls literally cracked from one side of the room to the other. Once outside the scenario was ever crazier! People in their underwear running and the sound of millions of things cracking around sounded like a furious lion and was the scariest thing ever! Alan was half extremely excited enjoying the end of the world, half shaking scared, mainly because he loves adrenalin in any form and especially in the form of natural force. But it didn’t end there! They where not safe on the street yet. Pieces of buildings where falling everywhere, cars crashing, lights shutting off and electric cables over their heads exploding in flames and sparkling.
He thought: This is it!!
After a while the ground stopped moving and thanks to G’d, apart from a broken apartment and broken stuff, he and the people in the party were all safe and praying the best for the less lucky ones.

Rodrigo was with his girlfriend and some friends in the 13th floor of a building on the beach, about a hundred kilometers from his fellow band members Andres and Alan.
It started very suddenly and in a few seconds they were all against the doorframes. When the stuff inside the apartment started to fall and break and the lights were out, Rodrigo realized that this was maybe the end (but deep inside he knew that everything was gonna be ok, and that there were many things left to do in this world, like being in a rock band and learning better and more difficult origami models), everything was shaking and he thought maybe the whole building would fall apart, so when the worse part was over, they ran to the escape stairs and in a few seconds they were all downstairs with everyone else. Luckily, nothing terrible happened and he is really grateful about this, but he and everyone else are still concerned about all the missing people, the families that lost loved ones and those who lost their homes.

Chile is a country of seismic activity; therefore our buildings are built quake-proof. But, like in every country, there are poorer buildings, or others that cheat construction testing and are made by cost reduction techniques, or others that simply did not resist the magnitude of the earthquake. There may be tons of reasons why, but the thing is that we have lost many lives, and people is suffering so we ask you all to pray and, if you can, to donate here.

Our thoughts are with the people in the Maule and Bio-Bio Regions, where the epicenter took place and with everyone else who has suffered and lost someone or something precious to them. Our country is strong and capable of surpassing this and many other brutalities the earth can throw at us, so we stand hopeful and positive for a near recovery.

Si te estabas preguntando cual es la historia con los chicos de SOFIA y del
increíblemente fuerte terremoto que sufrieron, estamos felices de contarles que estamos todos sanos y salvos. Aquí les contamos lo que pasó con cada uno de nosotros.

Andrés estaba en su apartamento en el piso 13 de un edificio de 15 pisos, cuando
de repente la electricidad se fue. Su hermano menor fue a ver que pasó en los conectores, cerca de sus habitaciones, cuando de repente comenzó a temblar lentamente, como en un
temblor regular. Pero entonces, la cosa se puso más pesada y más fuerte y Andrés,
su hermano, dos amigos de su hermano y una tía tuvieron que mantenerse afirmados bajo
los marcos de las puertas para que no cayeran. A Andrés no le dan miedo este tipo de cosas, pero realmente pensaba que este era su fin. ¡Empezó a rezar en voz alta y lo único que tenía en mente era si morir
le iba a doler!
Por suerte, él vive en un edificio seguro y no pasó nada. Sólo tuvo que
limpiar un desorden en su dormitorio y sala de estar, y tiene que arreglar su TV, pero aparte de eso, él está bien al igual que su familia y amigos.

Alan estaba en una fiesta de cumpleaños de su buen amigo y compañero de habitación “El
Pingüino” cuando el suelo comenzó a temblar. Al comienzo, su amiga Maya
le dijo: “¡Alan, deja de mover el piso, hombre!”. Él dijo: “¡Yo no estoy moviendo nada!” -¡Después de 10 segundos, la casa se caía a pedazos! Todos corrían hacia fuera en histeria y gritando: “¡Corran por sus vidas!!” Las paredes se quebraron literalmente de un lado de la habitación a la otra. Una vez fuera del edificio, la cosa fue cada vez más loca. ¡La gente en su ropa interior corría y el sonido de millones de cosas alrededor rompiéndose sonaba como un león furioso y fue la cosa más espantosa! Alan estaba medio emocionado disfrutando el fin del mundo y medio temblando de miedo, sobre todo porque le gusta la
adrenalina en cualquier forma y, más aún si es en forma de la fuerza natural. ¡Pero no terminaba allí! ¡Todavia no estaba seguros en la calle! Piezas de edificios caian por todas partes, los coches se estrellaban, las luces se apagaban y los cables eléctricos sobre sus cabezas estallaban con llamas y chispas.
Pensó: ”¡Esto es el fin!”
Después de un tiempo el suelo dejó de moverse y gracias a D’s, aparte de tener un apartamento medio roto y cosas rotas, él y la gente de la fiesta estaban todos a salvo, rezando por el bien para los menos afortunados.

Rodrigo estaba con su novia y algunos amigos en el piso 13 de un
edificio en la playa, a unos cien kilómetros de sus compañeros de banda Andrés y Alan.
Se inició muy pronto y en pocos segundos, todos estaban en contra de los marcos de las puertas. Cuando las cosas dentro del apartamento comenzaron a caerse y romperse
y las luces se apagaban, Rodrigo se dio cuenta de que era tal vez el final (pero en el fondo sabía que todo iba a estar bien, y que quedaban muchas cosas por hacer en este mundo, como estar en una banda de rock y aprender más y mejores modelos de difíciles de origami), todo estaba
agitado y pensó que tal vez el edificio entero se vendría abajo, así que cuando lo peor había pasado, corrieron a las escaleras de escape y en unos pocos segundos todos estaban abajo con los demás. Por suerte, nada terrible sucedió y está muy agradecido por esto, pero él y todos los demás siguen preocupados por todas las personas desaparecidas, las familias que perdieron seres queridos y aquellos que perdieron sus hogares.

Chile es un país de actividad sísmica, por lo que nuestros edificios están construidos a prueba de terremotos. Pero, como en todos los países, hay edificios más pobres, u
otros, que engañan las pruebas de construcción y usan tecnicas para reducir costos, u otros que simplemente no resisten la magnitud del terremoto. Puede haber miles de razones por qué, pero la cosa es que se han perdido muchas vidas, y la gente está sufriendo, por ello pedimos a todos a orar
y, si es posible, donar aquí.

Nuestros pensamientos están con las personas en las regiones del Maule y Bio Bio, donde
el epicentro tuvo lugar y con todos aquellos que han sufrido y perdido a alguien o algo preciado para ellos. Nuestro país es fuerte y capaz de superar esta y muchas otras brutalidades que la tierra puede lanzarnos, por lo que estamos optimistas y positivas de una cercana recuperación.
