Con dos importantes premios internacionales sobre sus hombros (Inglaterra y USA), un disco ad portas de su lanzamiento y un concierto en el Caupolican junto al reconocido artista norteamericano Matisyahu (programado para el 20 de abril), SOFIA se ha convertido en uno de los artistas más prometedores de la escena musical en Chile.

La historia de esta banda conformada por Alan Wurman (Voz, Piano y guitarra), Andrés Vilensky (voz y guitarra), Rodrigo Chame (Baterias) y los músicos invitados René Roco (Guitarra) y Cristián Contreras (bajo) es de las más extrañas y exitosas que se hayan visto en el ultimo tiempo.

En 2008 con un demo de 4 canciones producido por ellos mismos SOFIA sacó el primer lugar entre 1.000 bandas de todo el mundo en el concurso de la plataforma inglesa Slice The Pie. Este logro les significó hacer realidad el sueño de toda banda. Fueron premiados con un total de 15.000 libras esterlinas ($15.000.000) para la producción de su disco debut incluyendo video clip, instrumentos musicales de ultima generación y pagina web entre otros. Aunque más importante aun, ganaron también un contrato exclusivo de distribución digital con dicha firma establecida en Londres para el 2010 y 2011.

En el 2009, aun grabando su disco la banda recibe la noticia de un nuevo reconocimiento, esta vez sacando el primer lugar en la categoría Modern Rock de un total de 500 bandas en USA por la firma Ourstage.com

Acerca del disco
El esperado disco fue producido, mezclado y masterizado en Estudios Triana por Gonzalo González (Los Bunkers, Chancho en Piedra, Francisca Valenzuela, etc) y Pre producido en Estudios Elastika por Mariano Pavez (Dogma, EM 3,14, etc.), mientras que la grafica fue realizada por el artista Chris Leskovsek (Papa Negro, Sinergia, etc.)

Este primer LP con 13 canciones ya se puede comprar con despacho a domicilio en www.buscalibros.cl y su lanzamiento oficial esta programado para Mayo del 2010. El esperado disco llevará el curioso nombre de “Dayenu”, palabra sacada de un cántico judío milenario de agradecimiento a dios que significa “nos es suficiente con lo que tenemos”.

¿Por que SOFIA?
Todo en esta banda tiene una razón de ser, partiendo por el nombre.
SOFIA, que en griego significa sabiduría, es un compromiso personal de la banda con la búsqueda de esta. Su pensamiento es simple: “Se nos ha dado la oportunidad de decir algo y que muchos lo escuchen y lo canten. Sabemos la responsabilidad que esto conlleva y es nuestra obligación aprovecharla y hacer una diferencia”.

El mensaje de sus canciones
Las letras de los temas nacen de experiencias, preguntas existenciales y están llenas de mensajes espirituales contingentes a lo que sucede hoy en el planeta pero siempre con un esfuerzo por mostrar las cosas en positivo. En vez de criticar a la sociedad y enfocarse en lo negativo SOFIA hace una invitación a cambiar, a hacer el bien, parten siempre de la base de que uno hace que la realidad sea como es y cada pequeña acción o palabra son importantes para el bien total del sistema.

Primer single y video clip
El primer single de SOFIA es “On My Own”, canción cuyos derechos fueron donados en un 100% a la Cruz Roja Chilena con el fin de ayudar a los damnificados por el terremoto del pasado 27 de febrero de 2010. El respectivo video clip será filmado por el Director Nimrod Amitai, conocido por su participación como director en la versión chilena de la serie Inglesa/Estadounidense The Office (La Ofis).

With two important international prizes upon them (England and USA), their debut album about to be launched and a concert with north American artist Matisyahu (scheduled for april, 20^th), SOFIA has become one of the most promising artists in Chile.

SOFIA is Alan Wurman (vocals, piano and guitar), Andrés Vilensky (vocals, guitar), Rodrigo Chame (Drums) and guest musicians René Roco (guitar) and Cristián Contreras (bass). This band´s history is one of the strangest and yet successful.

In 2008, they won the first prize among 1000 bands worldwide in british website www.slicethepie.com with a 4 song self-produced EP. This achievement accomplished every band´s dream; they won 15000 pounds for the entire production of their debut album, including videoclip, brand new musical instruments and website among other benefits. Most important, they were also given an exclusive online distribution contract with London based enterprise during the years 2010 and 2011.

SOFIA keeps making news.

The album will be titled “Dayenu”, a word taken from an ancient jewish song, which means something like “it would have been enough for us”

Why SOFIA?

Everything about this band has a deeper meaning, starting with it´s name. “SOFIA” means “wisdom” in greek, and it´s about the band´s personal commitment of pursuing this wisdom. The idea is simple: “we have been given the opportunity to say something to many people, and we know the responsibility that this means, so we feel obligated to make the most of it and to make a difference”.

The message of their songs

The Lyrics come from experiences, existential questions and they are full of positive spiritual messages. Instead of criticizing, SOFIA focuses on extending an invitation to everyone to change, do good and starts with the premise that every little act or word affects the whole system.

First single and video clip

The first single is “On My Own” and the video will be directed by Nimrod Amitai, well known for directing the Chilean version of the british/north American tv show The Office (La Ofis).
